"Who me? Get on a stage and act like a freak?"
questioned the innocent,
wide-eyed graduate after the phone call that would
lead her to corruption
beyond return. But DJ K-Tell, in his oh-so-persuasive
way, managed to sway
Lisa to perform a skit during one of his newly
acquired DJ gigs at Bob and
Barbara's. That was in May 1997. Little did she
realize just how cathartic and
contagious the next few years of Dumpsta fame would
be. Slowly and steadily, the troupe formed, growing
beyond the DJ's wildest, most twisted imagination
as others found their way into the Dumpsta. But in
September 1998, Lisa's fellow Players received news of
the most shocking nature. In a bout of temporary
insanity, Lisa fled to Manhattan to pursue a life of
stress and
brainwashing at yet another institution...of higher
learning, that is.
She quickly became addicted to the bright lights and
sleazy charm of the East Village. With a Greyhound bus
as her only lifeline to the safe world inside the
Dumpsta, Lisa managed to return occasionally, as she
longed for the comfort of the small, splintering
Stage and warmth of the flickering
spotlight. She continues to escape the Big Apple in
search of that monthly
Dumpsta fix and a good dose of brotherly love.
Highlights of Dumpsta moments include performing
"Rosemary's Baby" at
The Reject Film Festival for film director
extraordinaire John Waters.
